Industrial Alliance Pacific Insurance and Financial Services Inc., formerly known as North West Life, began as a mutual company in 1951. It later demutualized, and in 1967 became a federally registered company. In 1982 the company was acquired by Industrial Life. Following the merger of Industrial Life and Alliance Life in 1987, North West Life became a part of the Industrial Alliance Group of Companies. |
In June 1999 North West Life assumed the business of Seaboard Life, whose own roots go back to 1912 in Saskatchewan. The new combined organization is a life insurance company with assets of more than $2 billion, and the only full service life insurer in Canada with its head office west of Winnipeg.
This new entity changed its name on 1 September 2000, and now operates as Industrial Alliance Pacific Insurance and Financial Services Inc. ("Industrial Alliance Pacific").
